We Make Batteries Run 

It’s almost too easy to imagine technological progress on planet Earth: sleek soft-running electric vehicles that travel along starlit highways, smart sustainable neighborhoods and powerful devices that function for weeks on a single charge. The industry is revving up for these changes, and yet humankind is positioned to remain just as wasteful and irresponsible with clean energy as it has been in the past with fossil fuels.

Battery manufacturing suffers from costly quality control errors, and the resulting flaws have ripple effects through the entire life cycle of a battery. Battery management remains an open-loop system, incapable of diagnosing and actively monitoring the needs of each battery-powered system, which results in poor performance and safety hazards. Furthermore, lithium-ion cells are rarely used to their full potential and are often discarded solely based on extraneous factors.

Without innovative technologies to enable and support the safe and effective manufacturing, deployment, use and recycling of batteries, our vision of an electric, carbon-free future is at risk.
